Real Estate Agent Designations – What they mean and why it matters

CPCU® – Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter

The CPCU® designation is one of the most respected credentials in the property and casualty insurance
industry, focused on risk management, insurance coverage, claims, contracts, liability, and property protection.

Why this matters: Very few insurance professionals earn the CPCU® designation, making it a highly respected
credential within the industry. For real estate clients, it means you’re working with someone who understands
both real estate transactions and many of the insurance-related topics that can affect homeownership.
However, buyers should always consult licensed insurance professionals for specific coverage advice, policy
interpretation, and underwriting decisions related to a property purchase.

Realtors® Commitment to Excellence Program

The Commitment to Excellence Program will encourage use of the C2EX Pledge of Performance: An
assurance provided by a REALTOR® to their consumers, fellow brokers and agents, and by brokers/managers
to their agents, detailing their commitment to professional excellence through the Commitment to Excellence
Program.

Why this matters: For our clients, the C2EX endorsement represents a commitment to professionalism, ongoing
education, strong communication, and a higher standard of service throughout the real estate experience.

ABR® – Accredited Buyer’s Representative

The ABR® designation is awarded to REALTORS® with advanced training in buyer representation and real
estate negotiations. This specialized education focuses on helping home buyers navigate contracts, inspections,
financing, negotiations, and the overall home buying process.

Why this matters: It means you’re working with a REALTOR® who has additional training focused specifically
on representing buyers and protecting their interests during the purchase process.

Graduate Realtor Institute Logo

GRI® – Graduate, REALTOR® Institute

REALTORS® with the GRI® designation have completed advanced training in real estate law, contracts,
negotiations, market analysis, financing, professional standards, and the overall sales process.

Why this matters: The GRI® curriculum goes beyond basic real estate licensing education and focuses on the
practical knowledge needed to navigate today’s real estate market.
